Reg to VIN Questions Answered
Cost, timing, legality, the DVLA check and what we do and do not provide.
Does the free DVLA check show the VIN?
No. The gov.uk vehicle enquiry shows tax and MOT details only. The VIN is on the V5C logbook and on the car itself.
How much does it cost?
£7, paid once. No subscription.
What happens after I enter my plate?
You see the vehicle details first so you can confirm it is the right car. After you continue to pay, we email the VIN within 1 working day.
How is the VIN delivered?
After payment we process the request by hand and email it to you.
Is this legal?
Yes, for lawful uses such as parts, servicing, insurance and buying checks. We provide vehicle data only and never share keeper details. We refuse requests that look like misuse.
What if you cannot find the VIN?
If we cannot find the VIN, we email you to explain and refund your £7.
Are you linked to the DVLA?
No. We are an independent service and are not affiliated with the DVLA or gov.uk.
Can I get a full VIN from a reg?
Usually yes, for UK registered vehicles. We aim to send the full 17 character VIN.
